Heads
Abraham Tucker & Yoshi Chan: Yoshi as a guest on the show was going to be tough to pull off as he had no feud at the moment. Regardless of that fact, I remained optimistic; I believed Abe Washington could pull it off somehow. He warmed up the English crowd and wasted no time at all taking shots at them before he introduced Yoshi Tatsu.
“The people in England have jacked up teeth!”
“How is it that a place with free health care are losing the battle against gingivitis!”
Line of the night…it has to be.
After Yoshi arrived, he spoke about his difficulties learning the English language and Abe couldn’t understand him. Yoshi asked if he understands the words that are coming out of his mouth and Abe responded. [Insert Rush Hour moment]
“Nobody understands the words that are coming out of your mouth!”
“You wanna be Jackie Chan!”
I’m starting to become convinced that Abe’s gonna be around for awhile, he’s quickly becoming one of the best speakers. For what was supposed to be a dull segment, this turned out decent. I’m not huge on Tatsu, but he did it for me tonight.
Shattered Vision: Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait until next week to see the ECW career vs. Mask match between The Hurricane and the antagonist headhunting him, Paul Burchill. Burchill has been building up momentum taking out Tyler Reks on Superstars last week.
He went one one against Goldust hoping to build on the momentum. Burchill entered with Katie Lea, looking more confident than usual, which showed in the match. Solid work from both men, but Hurricane’s entrance music sealed Burchill’s fate.
The madman began looking around for Hurricane and Goldust got the win off the distraction. This is very interesting: Is Burchill due for a win against Hurricane next week? I’m not too sure, I can’t see Helms being unmasked.
It’s been a while since I came across a match that I wanted a star to both win and lose. I want the Burchills off of ECW, but I’d love to see Helms lose this feud. What will happen? Hurricane vs. Burchill V next week will give us the answers we’re searching for and the end to a well done feud.
Regal vs Christian III – Mutiny Negated: Once again, Regal was turned back after attempting to take down the Captain. The Roundtable flag is floating in the Atlantic Ocean instead of atop the ship where Regal wanted it to be.
Regal came out to a mixed reaction, but the cheers outweighed the boos. Christian came out to his usual good pop and Ms. Mayhew did a good job introducing them once all were in the ring; she’s starting to get better. The match started out well, both had their moments.
Before an almost lengthy commercial, Regal nearly took out Christian with a double underhook butterfly suplex from the top rope. Upon return, Regal gives Christian an exploder suplex on the ground outside of the ring.
Regal keeps the champ grounded pulling his legs off from the second rope and applying submission locks including a full nelson. There were a series of near falls towards the end of the match. Regal pulled on the ropes, but the refs saw him, Christian rolled him over for the pin, but Regal kicked out.
Captain Charisma connects with the Killswitch around the third attempt, but Regal kicks out. These two gave it everything they had. Christian was almost pinned after Regal kicked him in the face. The Captain goes for a tornado DDT from the top rope and Regal pushes him off. He gets in before the ref gets to 10. Â Christian goes for another Killswitch, but Regal counters.
The madman runs for the Knee Trembler, but Christian moves out of the way. Â He couldn’t regroup in time and Regal doubled back with the other knee and connected. The refs counts one, two, but Christian kicks out!
The two go at it again, but Christian connects with a huge missile dropkick to take control of the match. He goes for yet another Killswitch, only to be countered into the Regal stretch.
He couldn’t reach the ropes and appeared to be close to tapping out, but somehow he gets to the ropes. Regal sets up in the corner for one more Knee Trembler, but misses. Christian kicks Regal and swiftly does the Killswitch for the win.
Fantastic match, fantastic finish. I never thought I’d ever give a match the full five stars, definitely a can’t miss television match and is the running for television match of the year.
It’s a shame Regal didn’t win in England, but I wasn’t really counting on a Regal win. Oh has the prestige on the ECW title has rose, Christian’s reign was sprinkled with this cherry on top, he’s turned away all realistic challengers except one.
I’ll sound like a broken record again, but it has to be said: Give Shelton Benjamin a title shot already.
Edge of The Nickel
Aiming, but missing Targets: I want to see more from Archer (Lance Hoyt). I suppose squash matches will have to do until he gets a program to run with.
Ridiculous Standards: How longer is Shelton Benjamin going to be in limbo?
The rug was pulled from right under his feet after Sheamus left to RAW, and now he’s the third wheel in this Rosa Mendez-Zack Ryder angle. Ryder lost to Benjamin last week because he couldn’t keep his eyes off of Mendez resulting in a continuation of the Benjamin sweep (3-0 against Ryder).
The two will bump heads once again on WWE Superstars this week for Benjamin vs. Ryder IV Ryder had another fantasy about Rosa after speaking to her backstage this week, he also invited her to accompany him to the ring. Let me do the honors:
Benjamin 4-0 against Ryder
He’ll take part in Survivor Series on Team Morrison, so I suppose that’s the big guys giving thanks to Benjamin for hanging around so long. I have an idea for Christmas:
Shelton Benjamin vs. Christian for ECW championship (TLC Match).
Tails
There was nothing too horrendous this week.

What I don’t get is how the announcers are acting as if Benji and Zack didn’t have a two-week feud like 2 months ago. All of a sudden, we get The Rematch on Wednesday as if SB hasn’t owned ZR so far.
I know Shane, what happened to the heated feud? Benjamin’s sudden amnesia is going to spill over to SSeries where he and Hardy were at each other’s throats for the U.S. Title as well the feud he had with Morrison.
The only good thing from this is that Benjamin will be 4-0 against Ryder in the “feud”.
The night I decide that Im too damn lazy to watch ECW and you get lines like that from Abe. Damn. But it’s true though. LOL
Bet Regal/Christian III was really good. I plan to go back and watch it after work today.
What’s the deal with SB? And am I the only one still not taking Mr. Woo Woo Woo Ryder seriously?
Benjamin sits in the stands once again until the boys decide to give him a push again. With Regal pretty much done, SB is the only challenger left. Let’s see if they’ll finally pull the trigger.
It feels like Ryder has gone under the who’s-taking-him-seriously? column for awhile now but continues to be a presence.
I gotta say, Mr. Dankwa, at first when I read your column I had no idea what was going on. Not surprising since I had barely watched ECW. It only took one show for me to get it. Now I’m hooked. Love The Nickel. Thanks!
Welcome aboard the S.S. Extreme Sean!
[Please excuse the cheesy line]
I’m glad that you’ve taken part of becoming a regular ECW viewer, it’s a good pick me up after having to swallow those usually dragged out Monday Night fiestas.
Every Tuesday the Nickel will be flipped in the name of justice! Thanks for reading.
Line(s) of the night:
“Please don’t be mad at me because your teeth look like Stonehenge” -Abe
(British fans are chanting something) “I’m sorry I can’t understand you because your teeth are so jakked up” -Abe
Abe: I think we had enough of the thank you’s.
Tony: Your Welcome
Abe: Hey Tony could you do me a favor, SHUT UP!
All of those lines were great Kevin, but it was the gingivitis that got me!
Either way all of his lines could have took the honor.
hmmmm lets see….TOLD U SO!!!! i told everyone that regal would not beat christian and everyone said that cause they were in england he would well u were all WRONG!!!! u were WRONG….lol i cant wait for edge to come back
I doubted it myself, no one wins in their hometowns (or countries) anymore.
I hate those stupid gimmick ppvs. It’ll kill the TLC’s specialty. In my opinion, a TLC match should be determined by the participants, not the name of a PPV. But if they’re going through with it, Christian v Shelton should happen given their experience in ladder matches. Outside of them, the only others who I could see doing a TLC are Matt, Jericho, and Punk. I really hope this is the first, and last TLC-themed ppv.
Now that Christian’s done with Regal, the only challenger with any credibility is Shelton. They’re really killing the title’s prestige by giving shots to Ryder & Yoshi.
Matt & Shelton for Sole Survivors!!
I hope it’s the first and last TLC PPV myself, the specialty matches are being flushed down the toilet with these PPV.
“I want to challenge you for the whc in a TLC match, but we’ll have to wait until the PPV cause that’s the only time we’ll have them from now on”.
Matt and Shelton indeed.
Though Shelton is the only challenger left, I’m going to say it won’t be him getting a shot next. Just when you think he’s going to get it the shot, someone else does. They should gives us Shelton vs Christian already.
