WWE Monday Night Raw Results 10/26/09: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
The Good
Kofi Kingston vs. Chris Jericho: After a lackluster beginning to the show, this match really got things rolling. Jericho can have a match with anyone, and when that someone has the talent of a Kofi Kingston, you get a high quality match. The action was fast paced, with many counters, and Jericho’s every expression told the story much better than the announcers could. The finish here came when Kofi hit the “Trouble in Paradise”, and got the win. It seems as if Jericho is comfortable in elevating the younger talent these days, which is refreshingly consistent with his opinion of veterans who refused to do the same when he was the young blood.
Match Rating (4.5 out of 5 stars)
Randy Orton attacks a victorious Kofi Kingston: Oh, now we know why Jericho did the job. While Kofi was celebrating near the stage area, Randy Orton attacked him from behind, and threw him head first off the stage. Retaliation for Kofi interfering in the Iron Man Match at “Bragging Rights”. Nice continuity.
Randy Orton Promo with The Legacy: While being interviewed as to why he attacked Kofi, The Legacy interrupted and announced that they had something in store for John Cena when he came out later. Then they gave Randy a present… A stock car with his image on it. It looked really nice. Nice line from DiBiase about being able to afford it because of his dad.
Jack Swagger and The Miz Promo: The Miz and Swagger both threw their names in to the hosts to be named as John Cena’s next championship opponent. They both made their cases in the way that we would expect them to, but it was good to see the two “heels” having conflict with each other. It’s nice to see that some on the roster think the title means something.
MVP and Mark Henry vs. The Legacy, and aftermath with Randy Orton and Kofi Kingston: Weird booking here. We build up The Legacy for so long only to tear them down? But the match itself was good, with MVP getting the rollup pin on Ted DiBiase.
Match Rating: 2.5 out of 5 stars – But wait, there’s much more. So The Legacy is standing there, befuddled, when Randy Orton comes out, and starts bellyaching that he wants a rematch even though the stipulation last night was no rematch. He was interrupted by Kofi Kingston, who told Randy that no one cares what he says. When Randy told him to tell him that to his face, Kofi revealed that he was standing on Randy’s new stock car. Kofi proceeded to beat the heck out of the car. It was a great introduction to the “new” persona of Kofi, who will now have more depth, since dropping the fake “Happy Jamaican” act. Sidenote: Why did Randy not run to the back to limit the damage to the car? Ah, Wrestling.
The Miz vs. Evan Bourne: We’ve seen this match before, but right in the middle of it, Jack Swagger got on a microphone and started talking to The Miz while he wrestled. He informed him that no one was watching his match…which was kind of true for me…I was concentrating on it with like one quarter of my brain. So, Miz got in Swagger’s face, and the count began from the ref. Bourne jumped on top of both of them, and then skipped back into the ring to beat the count. Bourne wins!!! ‘Bout the only way he’s going to.
Match Rating: (it wasn’t really about the match, but) 3 out of 5 stars
Sheamus makes his debut on Raw vs. Jamie Noble: A debut is okay as a squash match. Right? I’ve never seen Sheamus before… that’s the truth. He has the complexion of Hercules Hernandez. He seemed alright. He hit a sick looking kick to the head on Noble to get the win. He needs to have a better match to earn the “good” column next time.
Match Rating – 2 out of 5 stars
Triple H vs. The Big Show: So, the thing is, DX informs us that this match is now a Lumberjack match with the Raw roster, (who Big Show screwed over) as the Lumberjacks. Jericho is poetry in motion as he makes a hasty exit as the roster comes to the ring. Thankfully, they did not include Legacy or Randy Orton, because that would have been stupid with Kofi Kingston being there. And the other addition – Guest referee John Cena…because that makes sense. And it was no disqualification. The match itself was pretty good, with the interference that would be expected from the lumberjacks. The ending came when after Cena refused to count to three for The Big Show, the Raw roster played “who can botch moves on The Big Show worse”, until DX “hit” Sweet Chin Music into The Pedigree for the win.
Match Rating: 3 out of 5 stars – But wait, there was more…The guys who make left turns came out and announced the main event for Survivor Series. Triple threat match – John Cena vs. HHH vs. Shawn Michaels. Apparently this match was made by…Hornswoggle. Okay. Could be interesting.  Minus the Hornswoggle of course.
The Bad
Opening of the show – Y2Show Promo is interrupted by co-hosts Kyle Bucsh and Joey Logano: I’m not from Bum****, America, so I don’t know who these racers are. I felt like TWD’s own Scott Beeby when Ben Rothlesberger was hosting. But it was more than not knowing who these guys were that made me not like the opening – I even disliked Chris Jericho – which you can go back in the archives and check… I’ve never said that before. The Big Show announced that he betrayed Raw because of a deal he made with Teddy Long to be The Undertaker’s next opponent. This was delivered weakly, and then the racers made their entrance. And it was all downhill with botches from there.
Chavo Geurrerro and Jillian Hall vs. Santino Marrella and Melina: I like Santino and Chavo, but the girls just can’t wrestle…and that’s bad because I think that these two are two of the best that the WWE has got to offer. Can anyone tell me why Diva’s can’t pull off simple moves and make them halfway believable anymore? Melina pinned Jillian after hitting a “Leg on the neck Split” – Yeah, that’s what I’m calling it.
The Legacy Promo with John Cena: Let’s slowly build up The Legacy only to tear them down right when they’re at their peak. Maybe they have a great long term plan, but, if you were going to have Cena crap all over them, why bother putting them in the ring with him in the first place? Cena basically said that they hadn’t earned anything. But they beat DX…and HHH beat Cena last week…soooooo…I don’t know, it just seemed bizarre and unnecessary to me. Did Cena gain anything by tearing these guys down? I don’t think so.
The Ugly
Hornswoggle being any way involved in the storyline to decide the main event at Survivor Series: ‘Nuff said.

RAW was a treat tonight considering how the show usually is. Kofi looked great, I love when he snapped on Orton’s car. The Bellas were sexy tonight, I don’t care if they can’t wrestle because they play their roles good.
I was so hyped to see Jamie Noble back on television, but then everything went downhill when Sheamus cameo much for bra out. Looks like they couldn’t wait fir the draft, this is the third non draft movement of the year, so much for brand extension.
Once again the Gold Standard is left high and dry, I hope they have plans for him.
The Big Show beat down was fun too.
okay i agree Raw itself was a hell of alot of fun. Great job WWE at building Kofi from midcard and actually making him look credible. Should be the main “classic” survivor series match… FUN. Honestly, i though Kofi was going nowhere because he had NO personality. glad i was wrong.
the final match was great booking. mad great sense and really put Big Show over as ONE TOUGH SON OF A ….. (however, i wish he would’ve really killed it with the promo at the begining and not just made it about the title). Should be a good 10 minute battle with taker now (although i wish they kept Jerishow together)
i actually thought putting legacy down a notch made sense. it explains there need to stay with Orton “because they have a lot to learn”, otherwise it didn’t make sense why they’re still with him. And i do believe that the longer Legacy stay together the better it is for them. A stable is not only about getting over with the crowd but getting the talent a place to improve… look at things like Cody’s Mike skills, DiBiase growth and their chemistry. I think they will only get better this way, and will definitely build again.
however, Survivor Series and future looks bad.
1. they dropped the ball with the DX vs Jerishow potential fued … WHY NOT DO IT??
2. DX in a match against each other means they are going to split sooner rather then later and i feel its too soon.
3. This is now the 2nd PPV in a row with NO tag team title defense.
4. Why are they already splitting Jerishow? now if even if they drop the titles it looks like they did so because they didn’t care.
5. Punk has just been shat on
6. Moved Sheamus too early and killed Benjamin AGAIN.
random thoughts
1. Cole didn’t say Vintage even once. he said classic jericho though. Atleast when he said vintage it made me laugh. (note: grisham was the best commentator last night)
2. If you were Carlito whats better: being off tv or jobbing like bourne?
3. MVP dead, i am an MVP mark and i wasn’t even into his match. GIVE THE MAN A MIKE for god’s sakes.
4. Melina can wrestle, just not with Gillian… and SHE’S hot.
I actually think the DX split is the best the thing that could happen right now. HHH and HBK are more valuable to the company if they are not obligated to be together all the time. Instead the WWE needs to use them both (especially HBK) as best as they can before they retire. If Shawn is forced to do singles’ matches then he has time to feud with younger stars. He’s the best seller/performer in the WWE so it wouldn’t take long for him to make a star out of someone like MVP or Swagger. I hope this potential split leads Shawn and Hunter away from one another instead of another feud between the two of them.
I am concerned about the tag belts too. They are constantly over looking them again. Then again, it could be that they trying find a team to push. It could be that they aren’t sure about Cryme Tyme yet and you cant have Jerishow feuding with the Harts because I’m certain they dont want to go the heel vs heel route. Either way its still a problem.
I’ve given up on MVP. Much like Bourne who will job forever as long as he’s still on Raw.
The gold standard? Huh?
S.B. and Sheamus have been feuding for weeks and now they wont be feuding anymore since Sheamus is on Raw instead of ECDub.
Finally some personality from Boring ass Kofi Kingston. i don’t care how good her can wrestle, until now snoooze, boring. Loved when he beat the hell out of “Orton’s car” The main event was also pretty good too. Way to go Raw writers! You kept me entertained for the whole show this time. I haven’t watched Raw for a couple of months because I was so sick of the “product” Had to laugh when Cena said that little bit about Raw airing re-runs. Is it me or did the Miz got robbed? Last I knew when the ref is counting somebody out and the other guy exits the ring it RESTARTS the count.
I was thinking the exact same thing about the count out. There was really no reason for Bourne to perform that dive anyway.
I think it would have worked better if Bourne was left to himself in the corner recovering while Swagger and Miz went at it outside the ring, leading to the countout. That’s how I would have booked it anyway.
I watched Raw as it aired for the first time in a long time and it was truly enjoyable.
Maybe Orton didn’t want to run to the back for fear of getting clocked with a 10 foot long orange crowbar.
I was at Raw live tonight and my god…when they did the superstars taping and during when he appeared on Raw, Swagger particually got booed from the building….
They also had a dark match after Triple H vs Big Show….Big Show and Legacy vs Kofi Kingston, John Cena and DX…that dark match stole the damn show its a shame no one outside the arena got to see it
Thanks for sharing… I like when the dark match is best… there should be a reward for shelling out the cash.
Yeah it really does make it worth the money…Triple H was even spent a little time making Jokes at Kofi and Cena’s expense and a few crack about how Raw goes over all the time so they get the extra rating points….Its great because they can do they stuff they are normally not allowed to say on TV
quick point…. in a match with 3 faces, i wonder who the crowd is going to boo? kudos WWE on making Cena even more unpopular
Heel turn coming? I’d like to see either HHH or HBK as a heel… more Shawn, because it’s been so long, not counting his program with TNA’s Hulk Hogan.
If Shawn turns heel on HHH I will mark out. HBK as heel would be GOLD….PLATINUM even!
Shawn will have the hardest time getting heat at first…unless he’s in Canada and or he starts talking about how he turned on all his partners. But I don’t care how they do it. I want HBK to turn heel and if the wrestling gods love us, Cena will turn heel too
I wonder if there’s a chance that Vince could let us all, us being the entire TWD staff, host RAW. I mean, we couldn’t be much worse than Al Sharpton or NASCAR drivers. Plus, I would love to see Scanlon write a column about himself.
On that note…Scanlon…what would you do if you hosted RAW? Please say “immediately fire Hornswoggle”
I wasn’t really serious there. LOL. Just trying to point out how ridiculously long that crowbar was.
that actually kinda makes sense but will swagger and the Miz be able to co-exist in the same team? and morrisson being the only smackdown member may look a little odd, but the promo’s would be solid
I got it Shane.
